Oakland Parks and Rec Foundation
By supporting the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation, we help empower Oakland communities to play, celebrate, recharge, and engage in green spaces across the city. Our financial contribution helps systemic efforts to improve equitable park access and our targeted community programs. Over the past year, OPRC invested more than $4.6 million to renovate facilities, administer recreation programs, provide youth scholarships, and advocate for parks. In addition to our financial support, the HL Family of Companies joined forces to plant trees in some pretty tough dirt along the median of San Leandro Blvd!
Girls Inc.
Girls Inc. is an organization we are proud to support. Their mission is to teach girls to value themselves, take risks, and discover and develop their inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and evidence-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by girls and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls.
American Heart Association
This organization is close to our hearts – no pun intended. Hard Hats with Heart benefits the American Heart Association’s work to build healthier communities free of cardiovascular disease and stroke, specifically aimed at the construction industry’s elevated risk. Our support of the AHA Hard Hats with Heart is championed by Exec VP of Business Development Bruce Daseking, who serves on the Executive Leadership Team for the organization.
Future Leaders Program
The mission of the FLP is to support young African American men who have the will and capability to study in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (also known as STEM) or other approved fields with a desire to compete in the global economy by taking leadership roles in business, government, and community-based organizations. The FLP primarily focuses on young African American men who come from disadvantaged and/or at-risk backgrounds to both give the young man a “leg-up” in society and produce leaders within the community to address the wide range of challenges facing Africans in America, African Americans, and society at large, and encourage those coming behind them. Our support of the Future Leaders Program is championed by Mike Hester, who serves as an advisor to the program.
Jobs and Housing Coalition
Jobs and Housing Coalition (JHC) is a non-profit corporation composed of senior executives of major companies in Oakland, California. As a business advocacy group, JHC works to create better jobs, quality housing, great retail, and new commerce to help Oakland realize its potential and make it a great place to live, work, and play. Our support of this organization is championed by Mike Hester.
The Crucible
The Crucible is a nonprofit organization and art school dedicated to making the fine and industrial arts accessible for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Our work is centered in Oakland and the East Bay, providing thousands of people with high-quality, fun classes and workshops each year. Our support of this organization is championed by HR Director Zeydi Gutierrez, who serves on the board of this great organization.
Alameda Point Collaborative
Alameda Point Collaborative is the largest supportive housing community in Alameda County. In 1999, APC transformed vacant military housing on the former Alameda Naval Air Station into a supportive housing community. APC now provides over 500 formerly homeless residents with the safety and stability of a place to call home. The APC is helping to break the vicious cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing unwavering support and resources to its residents. Our support of this organization is championed by Rob Doud.
Fairytale Town
Fairytale Town is a nonprofit park dedicated to promoting children’s imagination, creativity, and education. Located in the Sacramento Region, this location has provided countless hours of fun to many of our employees and their families. Our support of this organization is championed by VP of Sacramento Region Jeff Hoebel.
Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange
Dave Koerber and Jeff Hoebel champion this cause and our support of the four-month program that promotes career awareness of the construction industry among high school students culminating in teams building their structure during a two-day competition and will be judged by industry professionals on the completion of design, construction, code compliance, and safety.
WiOPS
As corporate sponsors, both McGuire and Hester and Casey-Fogli support this organization that strives to support the advancement of women in construction operations. Open to women and men in construction, architecture, or engineering professions, WiOPS provides monthly mentorship, learning, and networking opportunities to ensure a pipeline of female construction leaders for today and tomorrow. Membership and meetings are free due to the generosity of industry sponsors. Our Marketing Manager, Amanda Chaudhary, serves on the Board of Directors for WiOPS.
In addition, we supported a WiOPS-led fundraiser for a holiday dinner for the women enrolled in Building Futures. Building Futures aims to build communities with underserved individuals and families where they are safely and supportively housed, free from homelessness and domestic violence. We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
BORP
In honor of our long-time friend and employee Don Hunt who is an avid cyclist, we have continued support of a cause to which he donates his time and finances toward. The BORP Revolution Ride and Festival brings people of all abilities together for a day of cycling and celebration to raise money for BORP’s adaptive sports and recreational programs for people with physical disabilities.
Alameda Boys and Girls Club (ABGC)
The Boys and Girls Club exists to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. We are proud supporters of one of the club’s largest fundraising events. Corks, Forks, Rhythm & Brews is an epicurean event, and outdoor regional festival showcasing Northern California’s finest food and drink culture. Our support of this great organization is championed by Rob Doud, who serves on the Board of Directors for the club.
Cypress Mandela Training Center (CMTC)
The Cypress Mandela Training Center is a community-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of the people it serves by providing pre-apprentice construction and life skills training along with employment assistance. Our support of the CMTC is championed by Mike Hester, who serves as the President on the Board of Directors for this essential organization.
East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC)
The East Oakland Youth Development Center develops youth and young adults’ social and leadership capacities (ages 5 – 24) to prepare them for employment, higher education, and leadership opportunities. Our HR Director, Zeydi Gutierez, serves on the community leadership board for the organization.
The Unity Council
Our companies support The Unity Council de Los Muertos Annual Festival each year. This is a free community outdoor festival that brings over 100,000 people to the vibrant, culturally-rich Fruitvale neighborhood to enjoy world-class live music, family-friendly games, rides and activities, traditional Latin American artisans, and the stunning altar artistic installations created by community members paying homage to Los Muertos. Families across California join us to experience live music, Ballet Folklorico, and Aztec dancers and to shop at the local artisan craft stands.
Powerhouse Ministries
This organization hosts an event called Light Up The Night, in which all proceeds will go toward ending the cycles of addiction, abuse, and poverty in our region. Together, we are lighting up the dark!
Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area
This weekend-long event is possible through support from companies such as ours. The event hosted by the Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area celebrates those who have sacrificed and worked tirelessly for Equity, Justice, and Inclusion in our communities. The Urban League of Greater San Francisco (ULBA) has impacted thousands of lives across The Bay Area thanks to our community’s unwavering support and generosity.
Good Hope Resource Center
Our contributions benefit the Food Pantry and Cancer Education. Good Hope Resource Center was established in August 2018 to help offer various resources to individuals and families in need throughout the Bay Area. Our support of this organization is championed by Exec VP of Operations Kevin Hester.
Police Unity Tour
This organization brings public awareness to police officers who had died in the line of duty, honoring the fallen heroes’ sacrifices and raising money for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Our support of this organization is championed by VP of Estimating Sacramento Dave Koerber.
Shepherd’s Gate
Shepherd’s Gate helps women and children escape abuse, addiction, and homelessness. Women and children have safe shelter, meals, and a long-term 12-16 month Christ-centered recovery program that helps in every area of their lives: physical, spiritual, emotional, recovery, parenting, education & career, legal, financial, family reunification, etc. There is also a full program for children so they can find healing and thrive in life. Our support of this organization is championed by VP of Underground Mike Anderson.
The Alliance
The Alliance is a network of agencies, nonprofits, community members, businesses, and churches working together to protect kids and strengthen families. Their mission is to ensure all children grow up in a safe, loving family. Our support of this organization is championed by VP of Estimating Sacramento Dave Koerber.
The Salvation Army
We are proud supporters of the Salvation Army’s Oakland Garden Street Center Homeless Shelter. This shelter houses families in need for up to 4 months and allows them to stay together in one private room. We also hold an annual holiday party for the children of the neighboring Boothe Development Center, which is a preschool for low-income families. Our support is championed by Mike Hester, who serves as a team captain during the annual Red Kettle Fundraising campaign.
