I hope you and your families had a Happy New Year! Thank you everyone for finishing 2021 strong with fewer incidents, and a decrease in frequency and severity the whole year.
The Safety Team is has set goals for 2022 and we are very excited to make it a great year for everyone’s safety at work and at home. We are looking to improve the Safety Team’s service to our employees and to the job sites.
It is just as important to be safe at home as it is at work. It’s not just our health at risk but our families and friends as well. Carry your knowledge home.
What are common safety concerns at home?
- Auto Accidents – the leading cause of death.
- Drive defensively, distraction and alcohol free. Allow more time to arrive.
- Falls and Ladder Safety-make sure the ladder is stable and don’t use the top step!
- Housekeeping – slips, trips and falls are important at home too!
- Electrical Safety-Extension cords, power strips, overloaded circuits. Be Careful!
- Poisoning – A leading cause of death in the United States.
- Keep chemicals labeled and out of reach of children.
- Fire, Flood and Earthquake – Have an Emergency Action plan- Muster point?
- Create an emergency kit and store in an accessible location
- Keep Fire Extinguisher accessible
- Create an escape pack with important documents and medications
- Basic CPR – Chest Compressions only is OK, rescue breathes optional
- Call 9-1-1 first if person is not breathing
- Position face up on firm flat surface, clear mouth airway of obstruction, head-tilt back and chin lifted
- Push hard on lower half of breastbone with both hands with fingers intertwinedand locked elbows. Push down at least 2 inches
- Push at fast rate, 100 – 120 beats per minute singing the BeeGee’s song “Stayin Alive”
- Don’t stop! Continue until EMT arrives to relieve you.
- Be safe for your family, and yourself.
