Safety: Our Team, New Store Items, and More!

Who is your Safety Team?

I wanted to take a minute to introduce the Safety Team. First is our Safety Administrator Rene Acosta. Rene has been with the Harbor Linx family of companies since 2017. Next, we have our Safety Inspectors, Robert Sabin, and David Moyot. Robert has been with Safety Team since 2019 and David was first hired on with McGuire and Hester in 2004 working in the field. He moved over to the Safety Team officially in 2021. I was hired in 2020 as the Safety Manager. I worked under Don Hunt until he retired in 2021. The team is led by Kim Carone, Vice President of Risk Management, CLO. Kim has been with the Harbor Linx family since 2008. We have a great Safety Team with many years of experience and we are ready to serve the field with any safety or training needs. Let us know of any requests you and your crews have and we will be happy to facilitate.

Thank you,

Brandon Borger
Safety Manager

Fall Protection

Falls are the most common construction site injury, making up about 35% of all construction accidents. These often occur when a worker falls from scaffolding, ladders, roofs, chimneys, etc. The severity of the fall depends on how far from the ground the worker was when they fell and the circumstances of the fall.
The most common fall injuries are caused by:

  • Falls from unprotected edges, roofs, walls, and floor openings.
  • Improper scaffold construction and use.
  • Improper use of portable ladders.
  • Falls from girders and structural steel.
  • Impalement from unguarded, protruding rebar or conduit.

First: Recognize and identify potential fall hazards before starting work.
Second: Is fall protection required? Fed-OSHA requires Fall Protection when 6.0 feet above a lower level.
Third: Fall Protection may include an OSHA-compliant guardrail, a Personal Fall Arrest (PFA) system such as a lanyard or lifeline, or erecting a warning area at least six feet away from the fall hazard.
Fourth: Determine which method of protection will be used and USE IT!!!

If you need help ask the Safety Department

Make sure everyone, including workers new to the site, is made aware of the fall hazards present and are trained on how to use the Fall Protection systems in use.

Avoid less tragic but equally dangerous slips and trips through good housekeeping, keeping clear paths of travel, not allowing cords and hoses to become a bird’s nest of spaghetti, and taking care with muddy or slippery surfaces.

Safety is our culture. We prioritize the safety of our team, as well as those around us, to ensure we always go home safely.
