Another field improvement is complete at Palo Alto High School. Working with Palo Alto Unified School District, McGuire and Hester transformed the school’s existing natural dirt and turf softball field into a new synthetic turf facility designed to provide student athletes with an upgraded place to practice and compete.
Beyond the visible transformation, our work included the infrastructure and site improvements needed to create a durable, functional field that will serve the Palo Alto High School community for years to come.
More Than a New Playing Surface
The project involved removing the existing natural dirt and turf field, grading the site, and preparing it for the new synthetic turf system. Our scope also included new fencing, electrical rerouting, and future water and sewer utility connections.
Below the surface, our team installed a new field drainage system, including a storm drainage chamber designed to collect rainwater before it exits into the City storm drain system.

Solving Challenges in the Field
An aggressive schedule required careful coordination to meet the contract completion date. Early in construction, limited information about existing utilities created additional challenges, while the design of the permeable base required our team to work through field conditions to achieve a firm and unyielding foundation for the new field.
Our team coordinated closely with Palo Alto Unified School District to address utility conflicts while avoiding shutdowns that could disrupt campus operations. Construction activities were also carefully managed to maintain campus traffic and minimize impacts to students and staff.

Ready for the Next Game
The upgraded softball field provides Palo Alto High School student athletes with a refreshed place to practice, compete, and represent their school. With new synthetic turf, improved drainage, fencing, and supporting infrastructure in place, the transformation extends well beyond what can be seen from the sidelines.
We’re proud to have helped bring these improvements to life and deliver a facility that will support Palo Alto High School and its community for years to come.
