On December 14, McGuire and Hester joined Bay Nature for a guided tour of our creek restoration project at the UC Davis Arboretum, a project that blends thoughtful construction with ecological renewal. Hosted in partnership with Bay Nature, a nonprofit dedicated to deepening connections between people and the natural world, the tour invited community members, students, and conservation enthusiasts to explore the transformation of a once-degraded waterway into a thriving riparian ecosystem.

Participants walked a scenic three-mile route through the Arboretum, learning about the collaborative efforts that made the restoration possible. McGuire and Hester Project Manager Brian Unruh spoke about the technical and environmental challenges the team overcame, while UC Davis’s Andrew Fulks shared insights into the project’s ecological and design significance. Attendees saw firsthand how strategic grading, habitat restoration, and sustainable construction practices are helping to improve water quality, support native wildlife, and make the area more resilient to future climate events.

This event exemplified McGuire and Hester’s commitment to Community and Opportunity, creating spaces that serve both people and the environment, while engaging with the public to foster transparency, education, and stewardship. It was also a reminder of the beauty that thoughtful infrastructure can bring to public spaces, especially when rooted in environmental respect.
Since the restoration, the Arboretum has seen the return of native wildlife, including ducks and turtles, now thriving in the renewed wetlands and creek corridor. Their presence is a visible sign of ecological recovery and a lasting outcome of the team’s collaborative work.

We’re proud to partner with Bay Nature and grateful to everyone who joined the walk. Together, we’re building more than just projects, we’re building community.
