Over the final weekend of June, McGuire and Hester proudly participated in the 2025 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championship, an inspiring, in-person event that brought together top civil engineering students from across the U.S., Canada, China, and India. The national competition served as a platform to showcase the next generation’s innovation, creativity, and community, values that align closely with our own.

M&H representatives engaged directly with student teams competing in signature events including the Concrete Canoe races, Sustainable Solutions Presentations, and the Timber Strong Design Build Showcase. These future engineers impressed with their depth of knowledge and ingenuity, from cement-less concrete mixes and post-tensioned reinforcements to thoughtful designs addressing sustainability, mental wellness, and urban livability.

As part of our commitment to mentorship and industry partnership, we offered feedback on build techniques and encouraged teams to embrace new ideas, push the limits, and keep innovating. The hands-on conversations not only supported students in refining their approaches, they also reminded us why we invest in the next generation.

To cap off the weekend, Luke Vanderkooij joined the spirited (and slightly competitive) Root Beer Die Tournament, emerging as champions after an undefeated run. Special shoutout to the teams from Cal Poly, Virginia Tech, Laval University, University of Florida, and others for their sportsmanship and high-energy participation.

Congratulations to all the student teams, and especially the University of Florida for taking home the Concrete Canoe top prize. We’re honored to support events like these that build community, opportunity, and the future of civil engineering.
