Safety Update: Save our Number!

The Safety Department’s primary responsibility is to take all necessary steps to keep our employees and the public safe, and to protect our company and our valuable assets, the most important being YOU.

We take our job very seriously and operate as a customer service department, with you the employee being our number one customer. Easy access to us as a department and a resource makes your job easier. Recently, we implemented a dedicated Safety Department phone number that will easily and quickly connect you directly to a Safety Department member without having to call multiple numbers.

844-997-Safety (7233)

Program this number into your phone and add it to your favorites. The safety number is staffed 24/7 and will be answered by one of the Safety Department members.

This is for incident reporting, safety assistance, or any safety related question. If you call during off work hours and are prompted to leave a message, someone will call you back immediately. No longer should you call a Safety Department member directly, as they may be unable to answer the phone, and an immediate response is always warranted from the Safety Department.

If there is a company related incident, it MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY!

In order for us to do our job, it is critical that ALL accidents, injuries, and other types of incidents are reported immediately to the Safety Department. Even if you simply have a question about whether an incident should be reported, it is better to call and check. The initial report must be followed up with the appropriate incident form, filled out with as much detail as possible, and no later than 24 hours from the time of the incident. Make sure you are able to gather, record and provide complete and detailed information including: name(s), witnesses, time, site conditions, weather, insurance information, driver’s license, driver description, vehicle make, model, color, plate, registration information, title/ownership, etc., especially in the event of a vehicle accident.

Take as many photos and notes as are necessary to fully duplicate the scene and gather witness statements if available. If it is a utility hit, document who responded to the scene to repair the utility, and who actually performed work. DO NOT leave the scene without speaking with the Safety Department. There may be more steps that need to be taken. There are so many reasons why incidents must be reported timely, but the most important is that you allow a trained professional to assess the situation and provide you guidance on both a response and solution. You transfer your responsibility for the incident to one of the Safety Department members who knows exactly what to do!

Every day we strive to improve the Safety Department. To that end, we love getting safety suggestions, new and innovative ideas, and anything that both improves the safety of our daily tasks and productivity. And we love handing out Safety Bucks and Safety Scratchers for just such occasions and especially for all the excellent safe work you all are doing out there. Together, we SAFELY build things right!
