Our McGuire and Hester crews are used to heavy lifting, but a recent project at the Oakland Boys & Girls Club (Ossian E. Carr Branch) brought a whole new level of purpose to the job. What started as a standard volunteer day quickly transformed into a three-day team effort driven by hard work, creativity, and a deep sense of community pride. Every child deserves a safe, inspiring place to play, grow, and just be a kid. Unfortunately, those spaces aren't always easy to come by.
To give local kids a bright, welcoming, and safe place to learn and play, our crews rolled up their sleeves and put up some incredible numbers:
- 125 cubic yards of mulch moved and spread
- 10,000 pounds of concrete mixed and placed over a three-day push
- Brand new playground features built from the ground up
- Fresh garden boxes installed for hands-on learning
- A vibrant new mural painted to bring color and energy to the space
This project made local headlines on NBC Bay Area, which highlights just how vital this project is. Located on International Boulevard, this brand-new playspace provides an inspiring, safe haven where neighborhood children can feel free to play in. What made the project truly special was the involvement of the club's children, who helped design the space themselves, ensuring highly anticipated features like swings and monkey bars were included.
As a team, these moments serve as a powerful reminder that our work always extends beyond the jobsite. Building strong communities starts with investing in the people and places right around us. We are incredibly proud of every single crew member who lent their time, muscle, and heart to create something truly meaningful for Oakland families.
