McGuire and Hester is proud to have played a role in bringing Longfellow Fields to life, helping transform an underutilized lot in North Oakland into a vibrant community space where youth and families can gather, play, and stay active.
Supported by the McGuire and Hester Foundation in partnership with the Oakland Roots and Soul Foundation, PG&E Corporation Foundation, and local community leaders, the project reflects a shared commitment to investing in neighborhoods through spaces that encourage recreation, connection, and opportunity.
Located at 3884 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Longfellow Fields features two new mini soccer pitches complete with turf, goals, fencing, lighting, and surrounding improvements that create a safe and welcoming environment for the community. The fields are designed to host open play, youth clinics, after-school programming, and community events, ensuring the space will serve Oakland residents for years to come.

The official opening of Longfellow Fields brought together community members, project partners, local leaders, and neighborhood families to celebrate the completion of a vision years in the making.
