Over the last few months, McGuire and Hester management has done some homework to define our place in our market better and help us stand out from our competition. In doing so, we asked ourselves, “What qualities do we believe we possess or need to augment to distinguish ourselves from our competitors and thrive in what has become a much tighter market?” We call these qualities our Strategic Anchors.

Building Better for the Future
Over the last twelve months, the Casey Fogli and CF&T Leadership Team have been working to bolster our organization’s health. Aside from simply building a profitable business, this mission has focused us on creating better futures by providing meaningful work to those who love concrete as much as we do.
Fostering a Strong Safety Culture
The concrete pumping process involves multiple stages, from equipment setup and operation to material delivery and clean-up. Each stage carries its own set of risks. We can implement comprehensive risk management strategies by fostering a good safety culture, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and developing safe work procedures.
Aligning Harbor Linx Business Support
June 2023 I read the book The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni. When I first picked up the book, I was skeptical, thinking this was another one of those management books that spewed tons of research and statistics and overused words such as “empowerment” and “synergy.” I expected chapters about the importance of team-building events where […]
ALL OF US TOGETHER, We can do it BETTER!
In my prior life at a public accounting firm, I handled real estate development and construction clients, among other industries. None of my real estate clients owned construction companies, and only a few of my construction clients developed their own real estate. While working at McGuire and Hester and seeing jobs we had with various real estate developers, hearing field management questioning the over-engineering, and the typical scratching of the head, “Why are they having us do that,” we asked ourselves, “Why not us? Why don’t we start developing our own real estate projects?”
2022 Year End, 2023 Kick Start
We closed out 2022 and began 2023 with a lot of much-needed rain. We now have reassuring green hills, and our reservoirs are filling with water, the lifeblood of our state. So despite what this rain may have done to impede projects temporarily, it brought with it new work in the form of roadway and drainage infrastructure emergencies.
Unity
I am continuously inspired by the unbridled passion that so many employees at Casey-Fogli and CF&T possess. This passion was 100% apparent when we tasked 12 employees from the office and the field to write in their own words examples of how our Strategic Anchors were being used in the course of their daily work.
Feeling Optimistic
As we push forward in 2023, this issue of The Voyage gives us the opportunity to take a moment to reflect on some of our accomplishments. Safety, morale, and new customer acquisitions were at the top of our list in 2022.
We’ve Come A Long Way
March 2023 I’m so appreciative of our Harbor Linx Business Support Accounting Team. I remember back in 1989 when I started with McGuire and Hester, yes before some of you were even born, how the accounting department’s desks were no more than a used door on top of two file cabinets – no joke. Accounting […]
Growing Santa’s Beard
After a two-year hiatus, Harbor Linx cheerfully returned to the Oakland Salvation Army Garden Street
Center in December to spread some Holiday cheer. Your jovial HLBS President dressed up as Santa and
the HLBS, M&H, and CF team members banded together to provide gifts, treats, crafts and games for
the children. Of course the highlight for the children is receiving a gift from St Nicolas.
